French broadcaster TF1 and Canal+ are among the broadcasters that have signed deals with Facebook for its new software tools.

Other broadcasters planning to make use of the APIs are the UK’s Channel Four, the Food Network and Brazilian sports net Esporte Interactivo. A total of 11 broadcasters have already signed up.

Dan Rose, Facebook’s VP of partnerships, said the broadcasters now have access measure conversations around their programme and enhance the second screen experience.

The new software tools, Keyword Insight API and Public Feed API allow broadcasters to track the number of chats taking place on specific keywords and give real-time information of chats taking place.

During his keynote, Rose also gave some numbers. According to research, 43% of tablet owners use the device as a second screen every day while watching TV. Also, two-thirds of all tablet and smartphone owners use their device as a second screen multiple time a week.
