FABIO CAPELLO urged John Terry to "get help" when he was fired as England skipper.

The England chief fears Terry's personal life is spiralling out of control after his affair with Wayne Bridge's ex-girlfriend became public.

Sources close to the England skipper claim he is refusing to come to terms with the fact he is responsible for one of the biggest scandals in the history of the national team.

Capello has been appalled by his behaviour in recent months and urged the disgraced England skipper to seek professional guidance when they met on Friday.

Although the England coach did not urge him to visit a shrink, he believes Terry needs to employ professional management to take control of his financial and personal affairs.

Capello fears that Terry is in meltdown, concerns shared by senior FA members.

Terry currently employs former Chelsea youth team player Paul Nicholls and Rushden chairman Keith Cousins as his agents.

He split with long- term agent Aaron Lincoln, who was also best man at his wedding two years ago, last summer. Since then Terry's life has been littered with scandal. In the last few months he has become involved in a string of embarrassing situations that affected his credibility as England captain.

Last year he conducted a private tour of the Chelsea training ground with News of the World reporters in exchange for £10,000 in cash, which apparently went to charity.

In the week that his England captaincy was in jeopardy, associates of the Chelsea defender agreed to sell his Wembley box for next month's friendly with Egypt, against FA rules, in exchange for £4,000.

It has also emerged that Terry gave Capello "a version of events" relating to his affair with Perroncel. Capello ordered the defender to come clean last weekend over the affair to give himself a chance of keeping the armband.

And there was surprise within FA ranks when Terry did not feel able to apologise for the scandal. Despite the controversy, he will play for Chelsea against Arsenal this afternoon.
