Es'hailSat 2 on target for Q4 2016 launch
The second broadcast satellite from Qatari satellite company Es'hailSat has cleared the critical design review (CDR) and is ready for assembly by manufacturer Mitsubishi Electric Company (MELCO).
Eshail 2 PhotoThe satellite will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2016 to the orbital position of 26° East, enhancing the company's capacity for premium direct-to-home (DTH) TV content across the Middle East and North Africa.
"Passing Critical Design Review validates that Es'hail-2 will meet our requirements and perform as expected for our stakeholders and customers. We are pleased to be moving forward with our satellite build programme with MELCO as Es'hail-2 plays a key role in our commitment to providing premium satellite capacity for the MENA region," said Ali Al Kuwari, CEO, Es'hailSat.
With both Ku-band and Ka-band transponders, Es'hail-2 will provide TV distribution and government services to stakeholders and commercial customers. The satellite will also provide the first Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT) geostationary communication capability.
The company's first satellite, Es'hail-1, has been operational since December 2013, and counts Al Jazeera and beIN Sports among the broadcasters which use its capacity.
