Egypt shuts down another TV channel

A court in Cairo has accused an Islamist TV channel, Al Hafez, of attempts to violate the unity of Egypt. The channel has been ordered to be shut down permanently, with immediate effect.
A lawsuit against the station was first filed by Egyptian actor Hany Ramzy after Sheikh Abdallah Badr insulted him in a programme aired on the channel.
According to a statement, Al Hafez has been shut down due to accusations that it was ‘inciting hatred’ against the country’s Coptic Christians, and ‘undermining national unity’.
The channel and its presenters have often been accused by the Copts and liberals of using hateful language against them in its reports.
