DGStation CubeRevo IPBox 9000 HD

I've got an IPBox 9000, and am trying to bring the firmware up-to-date.

In the past (18 months ago), I put the NLB image onto it, and am now trying to put a vanilla cuberevo image onto it.

Today, when I put the usb_all_noboot.img image onto USB and try to install via the TV, it just PANICs and reboots.

When I go to the NLB Upgrade firmware page, it tells me that the box is an Abcom9000/CubeRevo.

I've noticed that the image is almost 32Mb - when I 'df -k', I get the following:

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mtdblock3 16640 16640 0 100% /
none 38908 0 38908 0% /dev
/dev/mtdblock4 10240 5848 4392 57% /var
none 38908 0 38908 0% /mnt
none 38908 48 38860 0% /tmp
tmpfs 38908 0 38908 0% /dev/shm

The NLB GUI Tells me a bit about the box:

machine : DGStation cuberevo board
processor : 0
cpu family : sh4
cpu type : STb710x
Creating 9 MTD partitions on "Onboard_Flash":
0x00000000-0x00040000 : "nor.boot"
0x00040000-0x00060000 : "nor.config_welcome"
0x00060000-0x00260000 : "nor.kernel"
0x00260000-0x01600000 : "nor.root"
0x01600000-0x02000000 : "nor.db"
0x00060000-0x01600000 : "nor.kernel_root"
0x00060000-0x02000000 : "nor.kernel_root_db"
0x00040000-0x02000000 : "nor.all_noboot"
0x00000000-0x02000000 : "nor.all"

Am I right in thinking that the usb_all_noboot.img will overwrite the entire flash?

I don't really understand where Abcom, DGTeam and CubeRevo actually fit together - i.e. where should I be getting my images from? Has anyone got any clues as to what I am doing wrong, as I am keen to put a much more up-to-date image on the box.

Thanks and Regards,
Steve C

I see you didn't get a reply Steve. Welcome to cowboy territory. This amateur sat business is composed of many independent developers each doing their own thing. Abcom was a spin-off of Cuberevo ( or a a copy out there in cowboy land).
How they earn their money, I don't know, as the numbers of these boxes sold is not in the millions. I've had my IP Box 9000HD for over 2 years now. There are some kind people in this forum who will readily help. I'm stuck with NLB 950 or such on my box, not willing to risk a change as images seem to be persistently full of bugs, as reported in this forum.
So if you have a solution for a stable, latest image, I'd like to know.

I do not understand your problem and strange to me, in fact, this problem has never happened.

But you have the HDD in your 9000??
If there is you have connected??

Hi Steve C
trumpton6 / trumpton9

I was on a old image NLB which was great stable image but they stopped developing but BMT have started some great images .
If you want to flash the image .You will need to copy all on your hard drive as it will probably need to be reformated as I had to . I had to Telnet to the drive and reformat as the menu formate from the menu could see the hard drive but would not work .
There is no panel on BMT at present as this is being developted for the future .

Cheers

I think you need to rename the file upgrade.img then put usb stick in, switch off then holding the standby button on the front switch the box back on wait 20 secs then let go of standby.

You will need to copy all on your hard drive as it will need to reformat the hdd in the new firmware, sins r13433 this image is supported to
something different file format or data format compare with previous software image.
usb_update.img on usb, switch off, put in usb stik then put on the box and holding the standby button on the front switch and arrow up at same time.
now the box telleing you update.
don´t forget to format the usb stik befoure you copy the image on it, you can get error 10 if you don´t format it first.

Apologies for being so disparaging about the developer community, but the firmware for IP Box is not what I would call industrial strength. Difficult for guys like me who are only intermittent geeks. Steve, I'm on NLB 9850 and would like to try a new image. But only when it's finished. Which is the BMT image to watch out for. When will it be complete ?

Thanks

TerD,

I have loaded up the BMT image 1.0 NESSIE - on CRi 13651 . You will have to change the langauage to English so know your settings other wise you will be confused . Seems nice stable image and has emulators built in .I like the lay out and look of this image and is very quick boot up .Just waiting of a panel from the guys or you could install others until they release there's .

Goods luck make sure you back up your recordings was you will have to do a disk format .

Cheers

Belated thanks. I'm tracking the BMT image as this is an evolution of NLB which as you say is 'light' and just works (I'm actually afraid to change it for something that doesn't). I'm hanging in for the Panel to appear, then I'll have a try
