Czech Republic moves closer to DVB-T2
11.07 Europe/London, February 7, 2012 By Chris Dziadul

The Czech Telecom Office (CTU) is now prepared to allocate frequencies for two national multiplexes employing the DVB-T2 standard.

However, quoted by Digizone, its chairman Pavel Dvorak said that it would only do so once it is satisfied with the business model, which should include the provision of TV services.

The CTU sees the length of overlap between DVB-T and DVB-T2 as a key factor and is against the idea of long-term DVB-T2 tests ahead of the launch of commercial services.

TV Nova, the country’s leading broadcaster, is known to be interested in broadcasting the London Olympics this summer employing the DVB-T2 standard.

The national transmission company Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRa) is also keen on playing a leading role in the introduction of DVB-T2 in the Czech Republic.
