Owners Gary and Joan Marsh, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, were surprised to find the markings on Polly after they took her in from a local cat rescue centre.
Amazingly, they didn't actually spot the fact that their new cat had the word 'cat' on it for three days - only noticing it when they were commenting on how symmetrical her other markings were. Although possibly that's because they were already pretty confident that she was a cat and didn't feel the need to double-check.
'Once somebody points it out it is obvious – the word stands out a mile,' noted Mr Marsh.
