BT has announced plans to roll out free Wi-Fi access to almost 100 more pubs and bars in London by the end of next year.

Under its new partnership with Heineken, the telecoms giant will deploy wireless broadband services to an additional 200 establishments across the UK.

By connecting to the Wi-Fi network, customers will be able to access a special online portal - the Heineken Hub - that will feature exclusive content provided by the Independent and its sister newspaper, i.

When the work is complete, the number of active BT hotspots will surpass three million, with more than 200,000 sites having been added in the past three months.

Chris Bruce, chief executive of BT Openzone, said: "Using Wi-Fi to deliver free and exclusive content, Heineken is engaging and exciting pub-goers and will undoubtedly increase business."

In June, the internet service provider announced a new strategic agreement with Hilton Worldwide that will involve the provision and management of Wi-Fi access at almost 100 hotels across the UK and Ireland.

Mr Bruce said the Hilton deal demonstrates BT's commitment to providing "leading-edge technology" to partners that operate in demanding environments.
