BT deletes data wanted by Ministry of Sound

Thursday, November 4

BT has confirmed that it has deleted the details of its broadband customers wanted by record company Ministry of Sound.

The dance label went to court last month to force the telecoms firm to hand over the data of those suspected of illegal filesharing, BBC Newsbeat reports. A judge told the label to provide more evidence of its claims.

Simon Milner from BT said: "They asked us for 25,000 details. By the time that request came to us some of the data was so old it didn't exist any more... Let's have our day in court and argue these things out in front of a judge."

BT explained that it has deleted 20,000 customer details as it is its policy to discard such information older than 90 days old.

CEO of Ministry Lohan Presencer said: "As far I'm concerned they've been wasting our time.

"We're extremely frustrated. This has been a time-consuming and expensive process and it means we're going to have to go back to square one."

The record company claims that it contacted BT during the summer and asked it to retain the details to allow them to send warning letters to alleged filesharers.

Ministry confirmed that it was no longer financially viable to pursue these cases, but added that it has 150,000 further details it will now apply for.
