BDS strengthens Red Bee Media link

Broadcasting listings bureau Broadcasting Dataservices is to be renamed Red Bee Media Broadcasting Dataservices.

BDS, which provides TV and radio listings on behalf of both broadcasters and publishers, has been part of Red Bee Media since June 2005.

BDS owns one of the largest databases of programme and channel information for most major European channels. It collects programme information for over 1200 TV and radio channels and supplies data for newspapers and electronic programme guides (EPGs) publishing TV Listings in 22 different languages across Europe.

Pam Masters, chief executive of Red Bee Media, said: "BDS provides an essential part of Red Bee Media’s Digital Hive service. As viewers are faced with more programmes to choose from and increasing ways to watch this content, they will rely more heavily on EPGs and search functions to help them make their choices."

"The programme information that BDS holds helps the development of search and navigation functions through rich metadata, similar to what we have provided for the BBC iPlayer and Microsoft’s European Windows Media Centre," Master adds.

BDS’ clients include the BBC, ITV, FIVE and Virgin Television. The company delivers broadcast listings and electronic data to print media customers such as Radio Times as well as other screen-based customers including Virgin Media and Tiscali /HomeChoice in the UK. It provides European data to Microsoft, UPC and Sony, to help create EPGs.

The teams will remain in their current office for the time being in Ealing, West London, working closely with teams within Red Bee Media’s headquarters in the Broadcast Centre.

Dave Lee, chief executive of Broadcasting Dataservices, said: "We are delighted to be adopting the Red Bee Media brand. Since it was launched in October 2005 it has gathered industry recognition and now is associated with a future-focused digital media company that we are proud to be part of."
