Azerbaijan to stop analogue broadcasting in 2013

The National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan convened today. The Council reviewed and adopted the rules to develop and approve legal acts by the National Television and Radio Council and rules to issue license for digital radio and television broadcasting. It was decided to allot new television broadcasting channels in Baku and districts of the country to promote digital television broadcasting.
Head of the Council Nushiravan Maharramli said analogue broadcasting in Azerbaijan will be fully stopped at the end of 2013. “I ask the people to buy TV sets meeting digital systems if they decide to buy new TV sets. I ask entrepreneurs to take this into account, too.”
“Those with analogue TV sets will be able to use the digital system via a decoder. Azerbaijan will use digital and analogue broadcasting systems in parallel till 2013. But analogue broadcasting will be fully stopped in Azerbaijan by the end of 2013.”
