Amos launch date confirmed
13.49 Europe/London, September 11, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

IBC 2011- AMSTERDAM. Spacecom has confirmed to Broadband TV News that its third satellite (Amos-5) will be launched this December from Baikonur.

Located at 17 degrees East and with a total of 32 transponders, its C-band beam will have pan-African coverage with access to Europe and the Middle East, while three shaped regional Ku-beams will cover Africa, again with access to Europe and the Middle East.

According to Gil Illany, over 50% of the satellite’s capacity has now been sold and Spacecom’s existing satellites Amos-2 and Amos-3, both located at 4 degrees West, are over 90% full.

He added that the roadmap envisages the launch of Amos-4, located at 65 degrees East, in 2013.

Besides reaching 80% of the Russian population, it will also include Ka-band beams covering the Middle East and Europe.

Amos-6, located at 4 degrees West, will offer pan-European coverage, as well as the Middle East and Africa.

Significantly, it will have a Ka beam spot for broadband services.
