Al Jazeera Egypt - a threat to national security

The Egyptian authorities have baneed Al Jazeera’s Egyptian channel Mubasher Misr from operating in the country.
According to a statement issued by the ministry of investment, telecommunications and information, the Qatari channel has been banned from broadcasting in Egypt as it does not hold any legal permits to operate in the country. The statement adds that the channel has been using unlicensed broadcasting devices and also accuses the channel of spreading rumours and lies that damage the fabric of Egypt’s national security and unity.
Al jazeera Mubasher Misr’s offices in Cairo have been closed since July this year. The channel is currently broadcasting from Qatar and is still operational through Nilesat. With newsfeed and clips of pro-Muslim brotherhood rallies, the channel has been accused by viewers of being biased towards the group.
