After ASO, CAIWay adds 11 HD channels

October 7, 2010

CAIWay, Holland’s fourth largest cable operator, will completely switch off its analogue bouquet this Sunday, October 10. With the newly available spectrum, the cablenet will add up to 11 new HD channels, making it the largest HD offer in the country.
CAIWay is the first operator to completely switch off its analogue offer. Despite concern among some consumers, CAIWay will go ahead with its planned complete analogue switch-off. Already more than 95% of its installed base has been upgraded to digital, according to CEO Aart Verbree.

Distribution of the new HD channels will start on Thursday, October 14 and include ARD Das Erste HD, ZDF HD, Arte HD, Nat Geo Wild HD, Food Network HD, Luxe TV HD, NHK World HD and Mezzo Live HD, as well as HD versions of all 4 Eredivisie Live football channels.

Most of the HD channels require a special HD subscription, but CAIWay offers simulcasts of Nederland 1, 2 and 3, RTL4, RTL5, RTL7, RTL*, SBS6, Net5, Veronica, Eurosport HD, VRT een HD and Ketnet/Canvas HD as part of its basic tier.

In order to accommodate viewers who still depend on analogue distribution, CAIWay has started to distribute a basic offer of 18 channels in DVB-T. Customers can buy a DVB-T scart receiver for less than €20.00.
