A quarter of German internet users hit by geoblocking
July 1, 2016 11.01 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger
Almost a quarter (23%) of internet users in Germany wanted to watch videos on the net which turned out to be inaccessible due to geoblocking.
This is the result of a survey conducted by Bitkom Research on behalf of German industry association Bitkom among 809 internet users from 14 years of age.
Two thirds (66%) of the affected internet users wanted to watch movies, almost half of them (47%) music videos. 10% tried to access entertainment programmes, 8% sports and 7% series.
Just 6% say that they have tried to circumvent the regional blockage, for example through VPN tunnels or proxy servers outside Germany.
