83% growth for MENA pay-TV by 2020

A recent report has revealed that pay-TV revenues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will grow by more than 83% between 2010 and 2020 to USD 5.60 billion. From the USD 1.490 billion in pay-TV revenues to be added between 2013 and 2020, Turkey will supply USD 359 million, Egypt USD 362 million and Saudi Arabia USD 257 million.

Satellite TV will continue to dominate pay-TV revenues, taking two-thirds of the 2020 total (similar to the 2013 proportion). Satellite TV revenues will reach USD 3.74 billion in 2020, up by USD 1 billion on 2013 and nearly double the 2010 total.

In terms of platforms used – and despite a transformation to IP-based video services such as over-the-top (OTT) in countries such as Qatar and the UAE beginning in 2013 satellite TV continuing will continue to dominate pay-TV revenues, taking two-thirds of the 2020 total, similar to the 2013 proportion. Satellite TV revenues are set to reach $3.74 billion in 2020, a $1 billion rise on 2013 and nearly double the 2010 total.
