Ofcom has received 57 applications for following the advertisement to run 21 local TV stations across the UK.

The advertised areas were Belfast, Birmingham, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Grimsby, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Preston, Sheffield, Southampton and Swansea.

Local newspaper groups feature in bids for Norwich (Mustard) from Archant, publisher of the Eastern Daily Press, and in London where the Evening Standard is looking to follow into the footsteps of the ill-fated Channel One.

A number of organisations have created ‘mini-networks’ Made Television being involved in bids for Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester.

The Canadian Channel Zero, which operates CHCH in in Hamilton, Ontario, has also made bids across the country.
Four companies Avanti Local TV Services, Cannis Media’s Comux UK, Lmux (which quotes the telephone number used by the BBC Complaints Line) and Local TV Multplex Ltd.
