4th successive quarter of growth at Sky-D
10.09 Europe/London, August 12, 2011 By Julian Clover

Sky Deutschland has now achieved four quarters of subscriber growth, adding over 100,000 customers in the first half of the year, to take total subscriber numbers to 2.759 million.

CEO Brian Sullivan is now looking forward to 2011 subscriber growth of some 300,000. “We are pleased with our progress in the second quarter which is in line with our expectations. After four quarters of continued improvement, and having already grown by over 100,000 customers in the first half of this year, these solid results reinforce my confidence in our ability to build a successful pay-TV business. Our strategy to deliver for customers by focusing on the best program quality, exciting innovations and great service, is beginning to pay off.”

New services that have included a rise in the number of high definition channels to over 30 have been rewarded with a reduction in 12-month rolling churn from 16.3% in Q2 2010 to 12.4% today. The total number of Sky HD households is now 1.2 million including 714,000 on premium HD packages.

Sky-D has also introduced Sky Anytime, a free on demand service that downloads content to its set-tops, along the lines of the established BSkyB service of the same time. A new version of the EPG has also been introduced.

Revenues increased by 17% to €276.7 million, though despite a 51% EBITDA improvement the figure remained in the red at €23.4 million.
