200 couples 'arrested for kissing'
Nearly 200 couples in Sri Lanka have reportedly been arrested for public displays of affection.
According to Sky News, an official stated that local residents are made to feel embarrassed by couples kissing, hugging and holding hands.
Some of the couples arrested are believed to be as young as 15.
Police spokesman Prashantha Jayakody said: "We have taken them into custody for indecent behaviour at a public place. Usually we free them after informing their parents."
Though charges are not frequently pressed for the offence, 22 young couples from the student town of Matara will reportedly appear before a magistrate.
