Don't try to buy DM500 HD ...Please !!!!!!!

Well Dream anounced that some early 3rd party images are bricking the receivers ! because they were developed too fast without much knowledge of the receivers architecture, You should realy wait untill Gemini or LT release there official images for this receiver, simply because every other image is based on the Gemini Images when a new Dreambox receiver comes out....

Warning ! Dreambox 500 Hd & Bricking
If you have a new DM500HD unit please be aware of a potential issue with
some early version 3rd party images that may/will BRICK your DM500HD
and could void the warrenty. The sympton will be that after power up the
front LED will stay permt GREEN, The Ethenet port and USB port will be
non responsive.


You may be able to recover the unit by using the latest Dreamup 1.3.3.5
with both the Ethenet and USB cable conected. BUT if you get a reply
from Dreamup stating "Waiting for acknowledge" and no further
activaty. The unit will have to be returned to your place of purchase or
Dream Germany for repair.


Resellers have been made aware of this problem and have adviced their clients accordingly, Some will not replace the receiver if it has been flashed with any 3rd party image !


This problem is not a Dream Multimedia issue but something created by the 3rd party software developers who have not thorouly tested the images before releasing.


I beleive LT and Gemini images will be released shortly, its better to wait a little....


BE VERY CAREFULL WHEN LOADING UNPROVEN FIRMEWARE AS YOU MAY END UP WITH AN EXPENSIVE DOORSTOP.


All units sold are preloaded with factory release images only.


As stated the problem is related to corruption to the bootloader and
that All faulty units will have to be returned to Dream Germany (At your own expence in some cases ) for reprogramming. Even though this is not a Dream Multimedia problem as it is clearly stated that any installation of 3rd party software will void the warrenty.

i brought a dm500HD just 2 weeks back from satboy . works superb .loaded dream elite image onto it
brilliant picture and sound . works remarkably fast....
cant fault it yet

hi, i have this receiver ( DM 500 HD ) but i don t have problems . very strange ...

If you bought one of the first receivers launched your bound to have a failure rate higher than a more established models.

I am sure the first couple of thousand 500s, 800s & 7000s had simular failure rates when they were first launched but it was not so high profile as it is now because Dream receivers are now the No 1 receiver on the market mainly because cs has taken off and keys and emu do not open anything any more...

But there are only about 20-30 member on the dream fourm that have had any issues ! so from a good few thousand owners of the new 500 HD to have problems thats not too bad ....

If it was everyone then we would have a serious issue...

At the moment the price of the receiver has falled here in germany to 313 euro... All this bad press is making this receiver cheaper & cheaper.

It's a LIE ! . It's purely DREAM-MULTIMEDIA problem. I didn't have 3rd party of anything!. I and one of my friends bought three of them . All three was broken without any reason. 100% fault! . Nice thing is , there is no official statement from DM. I think they know what they've done !(look at their forum)

My advise to everyone: Do not waste your money on 500HD !

Go for other brands , maybe VU+

But if the receiver is none responsive Dream can not find what image is on it ! and Dream are not going to check ! Why is that you say ? because they would have quality checked all receivers that left the factory in the first place, but they dont !

Dream are in the business of building receivers for the purpose of third party software and in most cases commision Teams to build images for the Dreambox models, For dream to Void the warrenty if another image is on it is ridiculous in most cases Dream are paying teams to develop these images in the first place.

If you have any issue sent it back to the reseller directly, Paypall protects your item for 30 days after you bought any product on Ebay, Visa and Mastercard protect you as a customer for 30 days regardless of where you bought your item....This simply means your money can be returned to you if the product breaks down and you ship it back.

Hi I bought DM500HD 2 weeks ago and is a superb machine. I have Dream-elite image and work fine.

I was one of the first to get the dm500hd , before the official release date .
This box has been amazing, I have the following plug ins .
EPG - FULL SLY for over a week
APPLE - FILM TRAILERS
SHOUTCAST - FAVOURATE RADIO STATIONS

not really interested in the many other pluggins, thats available on line, the list is endless.. Using enigma 2 image ..I autoupdate it on line about once a week.

The built in web browser is superb, but best of all dreammedias free streaming program, is just like having a dvb card in your p.c.

The only problem I have, is that there is no way to do a complete image back up(yet).. but you can do a partial back up, and restore it , after you re-flash the machine ..

Absolutely No problem with dm500hd.

So if we take an average of people who posted here 2 out 20 or so members who posted had an issue with the new 500HD, now that speeks for its self.

There is very little wrong if anything with this receiver and this thread is been blown all out of proportion with its heading ( Don't try to buy DM500 HD ...Please !!!!!!!).

I have no problem with DM500HD ( Gemini 5.0 E2 ) working good for 10 days now. Picture quality is far better than my another HD device ( Cuberevo mini HD ).

What is this?
