According to this article in What Satellite that seems to be correct:

No Formula 1 for BBC HD...yet

The BBC won't be showing this year's Formula One Grand Prix racing season in hi-def, but they hope to have it in future.

Writing on the BBC Sports Editors' blog , Roger Mosey, director of BBC Sport, said: "F1 won't yet be available in HD though we'd very much like it to be. I'll keep you posted."
The BBC takes over Formula 1 and GP2 motor racing coverage from ITV when the new season begins in March.
Mosey said Friday and Saturday morning practice sessions will be available online and through the Red Button multi-screen service.
He also said: "Catch-up F1 will later be on the iPlayer with highlights on this site." It's not clear if that means the iPlayer catch-up will be ready for the first race from Melbourne, Australia, on March 29.
The lack of HD coverage is unlikely to be in the BBC's control, since Formula One Management now produces the coverage of every race and relays it to broadcasters, who add their own commentary.
FOM boss Bernie Ecclestone will probably sit on his pennies until worldwide HD audiences have grown beyond the relatively small numbers currently viewing.
