Google Earth too intrusive for Euro laws

GOOGLE'S PLAN TO PUT detailed street-level images on the Internet will not be allowed in the European Union.

The EU's data protection agency said that Google's Street View, which shows ground-level, 360-degree views of streets in 30 US cities, would break EU privacy laws.

European Union Data Protection Supervisor Peter Hustinx said he was confident that Google would work out a way to get around the different rules that operate in Europe. However he said the service it offered here would have to be different from that in the US.

Google has already had to modify some of its images to satisfy the Pentagon and since such technology existed, it should be easy to do something similar to satisfy Brussels, Hustinx said.

Technology which blurs faces on Google Earth has had some amusing results. For some reason the software felt it was necessary to blur the face of a horse as it pulled a cart in Central Park.
