Nigeria’s Broadcasting Commission has set March 31 as the date when all pay-TV operations must dump analogue TV.

Mr Yomi Bolarinwa, the NBC Director-General, made the disclosure at a meeting between Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the nation’s major cable operators in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. John Odey, Nigeria’s information and communication minister, said digitalisation would bring new and enhanced broadcasting services in this country. “Digitalistion means changing analogue signals to a digital format, which involves changing existing infrastructure and network and ensuring that consumers have acquired digital receivers,” he said.

“The process will also allow conditional access, better pictures, sound quality and radio spectrum frequencies which can be used to provide socially desirable service,” he said.
