Polish Aster under investigation
The Polish cable operator Aster has been accused of undercutting a much smaller rival named Spray in Warsaw, the country’s most lucrative market.
Local reports say that Spray, which has some 20,000 subscribers compared to Aster’s 350,000+, has lodged a complaint with the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) about the matter. Although the UOKiK has yet to reach a decision, it has previous rule against operators for similar (alleged) practices, one of the more recent cases being against Lódz-based Toya in 2006.
Aster is the country’s fourth largest MSO after UPC, Vectra and Multimedia Polska, with networks in Warsaw (principally), Kraków and Zielon Góra.
