Now ZomCon's head of security has moved in across the street, and Timmy's Mom refuses to be the only housewife on the block who doesn't have a zombie of her own. When she brings a zombie servant home, Timmy discovers a new best friend, and names him Fido. And even though Dad has a bad case of zombie-phobia, Timmy is determined to keep Fido, even if he does eat the odd person...

Victoria Hill, Geoffrey Wright
Starring:
Sam Worthington, Victoria Hill, Lachy Hulme, Anna Anderson, Steve Bastoni, Kate Bell, Louis Corbett, Peter Davenport, Matt Doran, Nash Edgerton, Bob Franklin, Hai Ha, Rel Hunt, Christopher Kirby, John Molloy, Mick Molloy, Miranda Nation, Jonathon Pasvolsky, Simon Scott, Christopher Shen, Kat Stewart Gary Sweet, Damian Walshe-Howling, Edwina Wren

Plot Summary:
Melbourne, present day.

The story begins when Macbeth (Sam Worthington), a loyal henchman, is rewarded with gifts from his crime boss Duncan (Gary Sweet) for serving him faithfully and performing bravely in a vicious gangland rip-off. But these gifts are nothing compared to what Duncan lavishes on his son Malcolm (Matt Doran). Macbeth wonders why he bothers to stick his neck out when Malcolm does nothing at all.

Macbeth is then visited by some extraordinary young witches, dabblers in the occult arts, who indicate that he shall be the new crime 'king'. Banquo (Steve Bastoni) won't be of the same standing, but he will father a 'king'. Macbeth is intrigued, but when Lady Macbeth (Victoria Hill) drops the hint that they might kill Duncan and take over the gang for themselves, he realises he may simply be fulfilling his destiny.

Duncan is killed in Macbeth's own home, with Lady Macbeth providing the drugs to silence the bodyguards and Macbeth, reluctantly, carrying out the murder. Suspicion for the murder falls on Malcolm and he has to leave town. Macbeth seizes power and becomes ruler of the gang. But still, he knows there may be rivals. The madness that drove Macbeth to kill Duncan now compels him to dispose of Banquo, followed by Macduff (Lachy Hume), or at least his young family, when Macduff is not to be found.

Some of the gang members begin to have their doubts about Macbeth's regime. Macbeth's wife is particularly affected by the brutal killing of Macduff's family; after all, she's lost a child of her own. Perhaps she isn't as ruthless as she thought; perhaps Macbeth is more ruthless than he thought?

Meanwhile, Malcolm returns and joins forces with Macduff and war is waged. While Macbeth waits for the blow to come, his wife commits suicide, leaving him and the rump of his men to take on his enemies who storm his country house, using all the power they can procure, including a corrupt police force. Macbeth fights like a man possessed, becoming bolder as the situation worsens. He is a mighty warrior. But will it be enough?

Beyond Hatred

Studio: First Run Features
Director:
Olivier Meyrou
Screenwriter:
Not Available
Starring:
Not Available
Genre: Documentary

Plot Summary:
"Beyond Hatred" is a unique film about one family’s need to forgive. On the night of September 13, 2002 Francois Chenu, because he admitted his homosexuality, was beaten to death by three skinheads and thrown into a pond. The gang was known to the police and quickly caught. Two years after the tragedy Francois’s parents continue to struggle with their grief and anger – but part of their struggle was to fight for tolerance and respect for others.

"Beyond Hatred" depicts the details of this crime but primarily focuses on its aftermath. Director Oliver Meyrou traveled to Reims before the trials to get to know Francois’ family and the attorneys for those accused. Before and during the trial he sought to learn more about the men accused of the crime and their backgrounds of prejudice and neglect.

He also began to observe the Chenu family who demonstrated great dignity as they tried to comprehend the circumstances that led to their inconsolable loss. Their grief was gradually replaced by a desire to understand the murderers, who came from socially and culturally underprivileged families and had been exploited by right-wing radical groups. The film documents the family’s effort to move from understanding to forgiveness.

Meyru shot the film more with a filmmaker’s eye, than with that of a journalist, intending to make a documentary not about homophobia, but a more universal film about tolerance.

Not Available
Genre: Documentary
MPAA Rating: PG

Plot Summary:
Like an open wound that will not heal the Arab-Israeli conflict refuses to be resolved. Acclaimed documentary producer and director, Isidore Rosmarin, and co-producer, Jeff Helmreich, have made "Blood and Tears" - the definitive film on this seemingly irresolvable conflict. Rosmarin uncovers the truth beneath the hype and the headlines. Rosmarin and his team of Middle East experts have gone right to the source: the ministers and mullahs, the fanatics and peaceniks, the soldiers and terrorists, and the ordinary families battling extraordinary forces as they try to live a normal life. They have interviewed top officials from both sides, from former Israeli Prime Ministers to senior Palestinian officials to the leaders of the militant extremist group Hamas, Sheikh Bitawi and the late Dr. Abdel aziz Rantisi. They have also interviewed renowned Mideast scholars Bernard Lewis & Fouad Ajami and the foremost Palestinian scholar, Rashid Khalidi. "Blood and Tears" explores the origin of the confrontation itself, and challenges many of the deep-rooted myths we all hold about this epicenter of human conflict.

Strike

Studio: Red Envelope Entertainment/Laemmle Zeller Films
Director: Volker Schlöndorff
Screenwriter:
Andreas Pflüger
Starring:
Katharina Thalbach
Genre: Drama

Plot Summary:
"Strike" is the true story of a remarkable and little known figure who was integral in beginning the Solidarity movement and setting Poland on the course to democracy. It's a touching tribute to a true overlooked hero, a woman who undergoes an important awakening – the realization of an ordinary person who simply looks around her and distinguishes right from wrong. Just as the simple action of Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat provided a catalyst for the entire Civil Rights Movement, so the actions of this single worker set the strikes in the Lenin Shipyards in Gdansk in motion, ultimately bringing about the Solidarity Movement, the rise of Lech Walesa, Perestroika, and eventually to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The Trials of Darryl Hunt

Studio: THINKFilm
Director:
Ricki Stern, Annie Sundberg
Screenwriter:
Anne Sundberg
Genre: Documentary

Plot Summary:
More than a decade in the making, and winner of nearly 20 film festival audience and jury prizes, Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg's "The Trials of Darryl Hunt" documents the aftermath of a brutal rape/murder and harrowing wrongful conviction in the modern American South. Told from the point-of-view of three principal subjects, an enterprising investigative journalist; an unyielding defense attorney; and a wrongfully convicted man, the film offers an eye-opening, provocative and haunting examination of a community – and a criminal justice system – subject to racial bias and tainted by fear. Chronicling this capital case from 1984 through 2004, with extensive personal narratives and exclusive footage from two decades, filmmakers Stern and Sundberg painstakingly frame the judicial and emotional responses to this chilling crime - and the implications surrounding Darryl Hunt's wrongful conviction - against a backdrop of class and bigotry in America.

Unborn in the USA: Inside the War on Abortion

Studio: First Run Features
Director:
Stephen Fell, Will Thompson
Screenwriter:
Not Available
Starring:
Not Available
Genre: Documentary

Plot Summary:
"Unborn in the USA: Inside the War on Abortion" is a revealing and provocative look into the deep secrets and deep pockets of the pro-life movement. This documentary weaves a riveting story from more than 70 exclusive interviews with pro-life activists and seldom-seen archival footage to document one of the most controversial social movements in American history.

When the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade affirmed a woman’s constitutional right to privacy, a new movement – dedicated to criminalizing abortion – was born. Now, more than 30 years later, with President George W. Bush’s conservative appointments to the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade teeters on the brink of reversal. "Unborn In The USA" asks and answers the question, “In the struggle for dominance over a woman’s right to privacy, who wins?”

Filmmakers Stephen Fell and Will Thompson began their documentary on the pro-life movement as seniors at Rice University when they were required to create a portrait of a person they did not know as part of a documentary course. They gained unprecedented access to pro-life groups, movement icons, fundraising machines, and even university students being specially groomed to carry the pro-life message for college credit. Fell and Thompson traveled across 35 states to bring us this eye-opening, often startling story.
