'You can't keep a good duck down'

A duck has shocked vets by escaping death for a second time.

The duck, named Perky, first survived being shot by a hunter and being stored for two days in his fridge.

The ring-neck shocked the hunter's wife by lifting her head when she opened the fridge door.

Vets said the duck needed surgery to the injuries to her wing, leg and beak.

During the operation her heart stopped prompting David Hale, a vet at a wildlife sanctury in Florida, to declare her officially dead.

He told staff: "We lost her. You know, the bird's dead and it's over. I'm sorry."

However, after a few seconds the bird made a few movements.

Mr Hale added: "Up comes the head and the wings start flapping and, honestly, what, 20 seconds later, I mean the bird was, like, up."

Veterinary nurse Noni Beck said: "I cried with joy. Perky is one tough duck."

Perky now has a pin in her wing, but is expected to make a good recovery.
