record with Vu + Solo

i just bought a Vu+ Solo

i want to start recording on my external HDD, that i didn't mount yet

the problem is when i plug that usb on my pc, i put a movie on it to watch it on tv via my receiver, impossible to record on it even though in device manager i can see it mounted
do i have to mount it anytime i plugg it out?
