Hi guys, can this be used as a server with sly card inserted?

If so does it work as well as say, a dm500? I mean does it not get too hot and fry the card etc?

And how would I set this up? Would DCC work with it?

Tested and working much, much better even than DM8000HD.
The VU+ is really cold. You can not compare with the pizza oven DM.
The problem with frying cards is existent only on DM.
VU+ does not fry cards!!

I have one of these on the way!

When I get it, can I use DCC to configure my cccam so I can set this up as a server?

Yes mate you can use DCC or any FTP program to do that.

You must give you image a pass though for DCC to connect it wont work without one. All VU image have a blank pass.

Ok, thanks mate. How exactly do I give the image a pass??

And what is the best current image for both picture quality AND epg?? These two things are crucial for me!

You do that with a small ap called putty, see this guide

Start Putty

Enter the IP of your VU

Tick the telnet box and then click on open.

At the prompt type root and hit enter.

It will ask for pass just hit enter again you don't have one yet.

At the next prompt type passwd and hit enter

Then type your pass note you wont see ant characters displayed, hit enter again then repeat the pass and enter again job done.

Just a quick one mate, do I download 'PUTTY' via my PC or via the menu in an image?
