VLC Plugin for Mac (Intel)DMG

Her A Small Explanation for those who are interested to know what DMG file are:
On the Macintosh, these files are treated like a real disk. They can be created with Disk Copy, burnt to CD or mounted as a normal volume. If you have a .DMG file on a Windows PC it's likely you have a Macintosh file and you won't be able to use what is in it. Some sites distribute for the PC in an .EXE file and for the Mac in a .DMG file; make certain you have the version designed for your system. On a Windows PC the dmg2iso program will convert a .DMG file to an .ISO file which can then be burned to a CD or read using an .ISO file reader. Note: You have to run the dmg2iso program at a command prompt using the same command as listed on the site for the Perl version, substituting .EXE for .PL in the command. DMGs can be password-protected and, if so, may not be mountable by some software. The DMG file also comes in different formats: HFS, HFS+, UFS, ProDOS, Linux, and Fat32 and so may also require special mounting software to account for the format. IsoBuster can interpret these files directly as can other programs such as UltraISO.

VLC Media Player 0.9.5

VLC media player 0.9.5

The VideoLAN team is pleased to announce the release of VLC media player 0.9.5. This is a bugfix release. VLC media player 0.9.4 and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerability in TiVo demuxer. More technical details are available in our advisory (CVE-2008-4654, CVE-2008-4686). Also, libpng was updated in Windows and MacOS builds to fix its security issue (CVE-2008-3964).

This release also improves media keys support under Windows, file access under all OSes, Qt interface usability as well as fixing few more other bugs. Full list of changes can be found here. We strongly recommend all users to update to this new version. Binary packages for Mac OS X and source code tarballs are available for download. Windows binaries might arrive at a later time.

Help is available, as usual, in many places:
The documentation (we need help keeping it up to date!)
The forums
The mailing lists
IRC: #videolan on Freenode
We'd like to thank all our contributors, testers and users around the world for their support and help making this release possible.

Changes between 0.9.4 and 0.9.5:

Security updates:
Fixed buffer overflow in TiVo demuxer (SA-0809, CVE-2008-4686, CVE-2008-4654)

Fix some crashes in DirectShow access
Qt Interface:
Fix bug when the resetting of preferences didn't reset the dialog states
Right-click menu to select playlist columns reenabled
Various fixed in playlist
Access:
MMAP module is now deactivated by default
Translations:
Update of Brazillian, Swedish translation
End of support for VLC 0.8.6 series

The VideoLAN team ceases all form of support for VLC media player the 0.8.6-bugfix tree. Due to lack of interest from the developpers community, source code maintenance efforts for the VLC media player 0.8.6-bugfix branch will be stopped. This is effective immediately; there will be no more security and critical fixes for VLC 0.8.6. Binary releases of the 0.8.6-bugfix branch had already stopped as of July 2008. The VideoLAN team will continue to provide major or security-related bug fixes for the VLC media player 0.9-bugfix branch. If you have not already upgraded to VLC version 0.9.5, please do so now.

This version introduces many fixes, notably for SSA decoding, v4l2,
MacOS interface, ogg/theora, x264 modules and security issues.
It also introduces the port to 64bits for Mac OS platform and 2 new
languages (Kazakh and Croatian).
Because of the security issues, we strongly recommand everybody

VLC 1.1.0 Release Candidate 4
------------------------------------
Important changes for users:
* On Linux, known bugs in the ALSA library might prevent audio output.
Update to alsa-lib 1.0.24 or later, or use the PulseAudio output instead.

Important changes for packagers:
* The module cache has moved to ${libdir}/vlc/. The module cache can now be
generated at install time except if you use staged installation. In the
later case, you can generate the module cache in your post-inst script
by invoking 'vlc-cache-gen'. If the module cache is not present and vlc
can't write in ${libdir}/vlc/, it will result it vlc taking a long time to
launch each time.
* Most X11-related plugins now use XCB instead of Xlib. VLC now uses
- xproto,
- xcb, xcb-shm, xcb-xv, xcb-randr (from libxcb),
- xcb-keysyms (from xcb-utils),
- x11-xcb (from libx11) - only for GLX support.
* On X11 platforms, a _working_ version of xdg-screensaver is typically
required to inhibit the screensaver during video playback.

Access:
* Support for the sftp protocol
* Support for CDDB servers for Audio-CD on the Windows port
* New memory input (imem) access and access_demux module to feed VLC from data in memory
* New avio module to use libavformat capabilities for network streams, like rtmp://
* Port of the screen module from Xlib to XCB
* Port of the dc1394 module from libdc1394 to libdc1394 v2.0

Decoders:
* Support for DxVA2 for H.264 decoding on GPU on Windows Vista and 7

VLC Media Player 1.1.1

The next VLC media player release is drawing near (it will be ready when it will be ready), and it comes with a lot of new features and bugfixing:
GPU decoding

One of the coolest new features (do I say that because I worked on it?). We can now decode videos using a graphic card, with DxVA on Windows Vista and 7, and VAAPI on Linux. If you want to test, we are looking for a little help.
Media library

That is a feature a lot of you are waiting for. We will now store a list of all your files in a database using Sqlite.
Windows 7 integration

Some of you already know that VLC media player 1.0.3 is compatible with Windows 7. We didn’t stop there. The next release will bring you cool taskbar buttons à la WMP, jump lists, thumbnails, etc.
Interface rework

I like the grey VLC. Maybe I have forgotten what the word “ergonomic” means. But some of the developers have not, and they’re doing an amazing work with the Qt interface, to change the layout, add nice effects and make it a lot prettier.
Lua extensions

People who read my previous blog know that I love tweaking VLC with Lua scripts. One developer had a nice project for this year’s Google Summer of Code: adding a way for lua scripts to change the interface. Now, lua scripts can add menus, open windows, etc. OK, it doesn’t sound cool at first, but what you will see thanks to this code is really nice: automatically downloading lyrics and subtitles, finding data on IMDb, doing a Google search, whatever you want! Isn’t that cool?
Still not convinced?

These were the features I’m excited to see in the next release. But that’s not all:
N900 port
Milkdrop visualizations using projectM
WPL and ZPL playlist support
desktop mode for Direct 3D video output (you know, the trick to show the video as a wallpaper…)

VLC Media Player 1.1.1 Windows release

Changes :

libVLC:
* New capabilities for libVLC:
* Adjust video filter control: libvlc_adjust_Enable,
libvlc_adjust_Contrast, libvlc_adjust_Brightness, libvlc_adjust_Hue,
libvlc_adjust_Saturation, libvlc_adjust_Gamma
* libvlc_media_player_set_pause() can force the pause state, whereas
libvlc_media_player_pause() would only toggle it.
* libvlc_set_user_agent() configures the "user agent" strings used for some
protocols (HTTP, PulseAudio...). This replaces the --http-user-agent and
the former --user-agent libvlc_new() parameters.
* libvlc_video_set_callbacks() and libvlc_video_set_format() allow grabbing
video frames from a chosen memory location in real-time. This replace the
ugly --vmem-* libvlc_new() parameters in previous versions.
See http://wiki.videolan.org/LibVLC_SampleCode_SDL as an example.
* libvlc_audio_get_delay() and libvlc_audio_set_delay() configure the delay
between audio and video/subpictures for the current input.
* Various fixes and crash preventions, especially when video functions were
called early

Decoders/Demuxers:
* Fix performance issues with GPU decoding using DxVA2 using ATI graphic cards
You NEED ATI Catalyst 10.7
